THE WORLD IS A BIG PLACE
My best advice today for young people starting their careers is to be globally aware. This requires a daily discipline of keeping up with worldwide events, as well as national and local events. You must know what's going on in the world to be an effective member of the world. My father always said to me, "Know everything you can about what you're doing" and I have followed his advice.
Being a leader means being prepared. That also means being prepared to never give up. Being tenacious with your goals is absolutely necessary. Great success rarely comes easily. Even today I encounter problems every day, but I remain positive, disciplined, and focused. Approach every day that way and it's likely you will succeed. Adversity is very often an opportunity in disguise.
I am listed in the Guinness Book of World Records for having the biggest financial turnaround in history. I owed billions of dollars in the early 1990s and many people thought I was finished. Even the newspapers were announcing my demise. The difference is that I didn't believe I was finished for one second, no matter what people thought. I simply refused to give in to negative circumstances and I kept working. In short, I refused to give up. I am now far more successful than I ever was.
The world is a big place. Think accordingly, be prepared, and never give up. That's a great combination for success. Work hard and good luck!
